Not Elsewhere, But Everywhere
Over a century ago national and provincial parks were conceived as a respite from an increasingly industrialized society. This dichotomy exempts most of our settled landscapes as being ‘outside’ of Nature. This thesis invents a new typology of peripatetic park: an itinerary constructed between natural protected areas and sites of industry, creating a composite network of discrete zones of conservation, mining, agriculture, human use, education, and tourism. Conflating infrastructures such as rail lines, roadways, and trails, this ‘park’ demonstrates that Nature is not elsewhere, but a part of the everyday, in the intersection of conservation and the post-industrial.
N'Awlins Illustration
This illustration pays homage to N’Awlins Jazz Bar, a beloved and lively Toronto restaurant that brought the spirit of New Orleans to Canada. Known for its authentic Creole and Cajun cuisine, it transported diners to the heart of Louisiana. The vibrant ambiance, complete with live jazz music and snug decor, made it a cherished spot. Sadly, like many establishments, N’Awlins closed its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic. This artwork is a heartfelt tribute to the family behind N’Awlins and all those who cherished this cozy haven for delicious food and soulful music. It captures the special place it held in the hearts of many, including my own fond memories of enjoying drinks at the bar amidst live music.
Framing the Climate Collective
"The Climatorium" is a potent response to the climate crisis in NYC, aligned with the IPCC's call for decarbonization within 8 years. Positioned at 250 Water Street, this project reimagines buildings for Net Zero performance, catalyzing "post-carbon thinking." It serves as the headquarters for the Civilian Climate Corps, a cornerstone of the 'Green New Deal,' converging administrative functions and transformative training under one roof. Beyond its functional role, the Climatorium fosters local community cohesion and reflects the essence of this emerging civic institution.
